HospitalRanked is a free hospital transparency tool that ranks over 5,400 US hospitals using official data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

We believe patients deserve easy access to hospital quality data without paywalls, ads, or sponsored listings influencing what they see.

Our Data Sources

All rankings are derived from CMS public domain data (US government, updated quarterly):

• Hospital Compare — overall star ratings (1-5 stars), safety, mortality, readmission, patient experience, and timeliness measures
• Complications and Deaths — procedure-specific outcome rates (hip/knee, heart attack, stroke, CABG, pneumonia, COPD, heart failure)

Trust Score (0-100)

Our composite trust score weights multiple CMS data points:

• CMS Star Rating — 40%
• Patient Safety Measures — 20%
• Mortality Outcomes — 20%
• Readmission Rates — 10%
• Patient Experience — 10%

Hospitals with no CMS data receive a baseline score of 40.

Limitations

CMS data reflects Medicare patients and may not represent all patient populations. Ratings are based on the most recent reporting period and may not reflect current conditions. Always consult with your healthcare provider when making medical decisions.
